Florida Super School Breakfast Effort

Kickoff Event on October 22nd at Hard Rock Stadium

GENYOUth, a national nonprofit dedicated to creating healthier school communities; the Miami Super Bowl Host Committee, the Miami DolphinsSchool Superintendents and 300 kids from Miami-DadeBroward and Palm Beach Countyschool districts; corporate sponsors and partners** will participate in the 100 Days-to-Kickoff event to launch an initiative to deliver 100 Grab and Go Breakfast Carts to South Florida schools.

 

WHAT:  The 100 Days-to-Kickoff event celebrates the 100th anniversary of the National Football League as well as the start of the Florida Super School Breakfast Initiative, which will deliver Grab and Go Breakfast Carts to 100 schools, increasing access to 10 million school meals for South Florida students

 

Great visuals – 300 youth representing Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County school districts will play flag football with Miami Dolphin Football players and alumni, participate in Sleep Number educational activities, receive boxed lunches from Food For Good and unveil the Super School Breakfast Grab and Go breakfast carts.

 

WHERE/WHEN:  October 22nd, 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Hard Rock Stadium, 347 Don Shula Drive (Gate 6), at the outdoor youth football area (rain location for press briefing will be in the Club Level)

WHY:   88% of schools report lacking at least one piece of equipment they need to serve healthier foods.  20% of children in Florida live in poverty (18% in Broward County, 22% in Miami-Dade County, 19% in Palm Beach County).   *37% of Florida youth are classified as obese, compared to the national average of 29%.  *Florida is ranked 40th out of 52 in breakfast participation in schools in the country.
