World Class Boxing announces a photography exhibition by Anna Gaskell. Using children’s fables, ghost stories and films as the inspiration, Gaskell strips these references down to their essentials to form a new narrative that is only vaguely familiar and tenuously connected with its source. Her art has much in common with Surrealism, fantasy, horror, the subconscious, female identity and sexuality. Gaskell’s work does not posses a specific narrative- a series of suggestive actions are the only reference points. Her oeuvre is based on implication rather than description; it is the ambiguity hovering between what is imagined and what one sees between reality and fiction.
