William Chewning in Miami’s Design District for Art Basel Miami Beach 2010

Explore and experience the elements of nature through the eyes of William Chewning as he displays his newest collection, “William Chewning’s Big Ideas.”  Back to Art Basel Miami Beach 2010, for the second year, Chewning will captivate his audience at his 1,800 square foot showroom filled with various abstract pieces, each of which were created using reoccurring imagery, realism, environmental elements and allegorical references.

Chewning’s exhibition will reveal a compelling and original “vocabulary” of ideas through the translation of his own life experiences. His paintings seem both traditional while at the same time, entirely modern. By          fusing together elements from nature with universal symbols, from sources as diverse as ancient Egypt,    Buddhism and Chinese screen painting, Chewning’s vision comes to life. Among the many pieces in Chewning’s collection, one of his central works is “Berkley in the Bay Tree,a large three paneled acrylic painting measuring 5 x 6 ft. Representing an allegorical garden landscape, this piece is Chewning’s interpretation of his ongoing struggle to see the world as it exists. Chewning’s exhibition will provide a window into the artistic “vocabulary” that Chewning has compiled from his various life experiences.

William Chewning’s works will be up from November 15th until December 15th, 2010 and can be viewed by appointment by calling 202.374.2937 .
