The City of Aventura and The Continental Group present Go Green Expo and Symposium

The City of Aventura and The Continental Group, Inc. (TCG) are presenting the “Go Green Expo and Symposium” on Thursday, February 24th,from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the City of Aventura Government Center located at 19200 West Country Club Drive.

Residents and condo management are invited to attend and learn all about the newest cost-effective practices in the Green Sustainable Movement. The City of Aventura is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and wants to teach attendees how they can participate in making the City more environmentally friendly. Furthermore, TCG, is Florida’s leading property management company and a dedicated education provider to its communities on green practices and sustainability, helping to encourage residents and businesses to participate in the green movement.

The Expo will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature desktop presentations by former “Go Green” City of Aventura winners; tentative Corporate Green presenters, such as Florida Power and Light, Lukes-Sawgrass Landscaping, Waste Management and All Florida Pest Control, presenting about topics such as: all natural pest control, recycling, water conservation, Florida Friendly™ landscaping, and energy saving tips. The Expo will also include potential organizational presenters such as: Fostering Sustainable Behavior Forum and Dream-In-Green.

The Symposium will begin at 7 p.m. with feature presentations by Devesh Nirmul, Director of Energy and Sustainability Solutions at FirstService Energy Management, Dr Jennifer Languell, President of the Florida Green Building Coalition and the award winning, City of Aventura Go Green program.  All multimedia presentations aim to educate residents, businesses and condominium managers and board members, on ways that the City of Aventura is “going green” and how they can establish or enhance their own Go Green initiatives in their homes, businesses and high-rise communities.

Attendees will be encouraged to ask questions after the presentations. Light refreshments will be served at the end of the symposium.

The City of Aventura and the Community Advisory Board are proud to announce the 2011 GO GREEN Recognition Award Program. Applications are available online and must be postmarked by 5 p.m. on February 25, 2011. The GO GREEN Awards will be presented as part of the City’s annual Arbor Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center.

The City of Aventura is honored to be a recipient of a Green Local Government Certification designated by the Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC). The FGBC certified the City at the Silver Level for demonstrating green efforts within a set of sustainability standards established for the Green Local Government Certification program.

The Florida Green Local Government designation exemplifies the City’s ongoing commitment to outstanding environmental stewardship. The City of Aventura has made a priority to operate a green government for several years. These strategies benefit the community in several ways by reducing environmental impacts and operational costs.
