On Thursday, October 28, 2010, Miami Dade College (MDC) will host a seminar that will join educators together with artists, poets, writers, and scholars from various parts of the globe to discuss Cuban art in the diaspora.

The panel represents a preliminary step in the eventual documenting and visual digitization of images and reference resources that will give a clear perspective of the presence and evolution of Cuban art outside Cuba.

The workshop is being organized by MDC’s Department of Arts and Philosophy and the Art Gallery System at Wolfson Campus. The panelists will include moderator Alfredo Triff,  MDC professor of philosophy;  Roc Laseca, art theorist and critic from Spain; Andrea O’Reilly Herrera, professor of literature and director of ethnic studies at the University of Colorado; Gustavo Valdes, curator from New York; and Ricardo Viera, director, Lehigh University Art Galleries in Pennsylvania.

The public is also invited to view three exhibitions presented by MDC’s Art Gallery System. The exhibitions include: Ways of Worldmaking: Notes on a Passion for Collecting, selections from the Collection of Dr. Alfredo and Liza Mosquera; Past is History, Future is Mystery; and the video exhibition Patria o Libertad: the Rhetorics of Patriotism.
