Redland Riot Road Rallye Showcases Regions Agriculture and History

For more than 100 years and six generations, Rob Burr’s family has called the Redlands region of Miami home. And for more than a decade, the family has been hosting Rob’s Redland Riot Road Rallye, which according to Rob is a “Fruity, Tropical History Tour Through Miami’s Bountiful Countryside.”
The all-day adventure kicks off on Saturday, January, 15 at 10 a.m. at Cauley Square (U.S.1 at S.W. 224 Street), and is sponsored by Dade Heritage Trust, which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary.
This is a competition, where each car is registered as a team. At the registration desk, each team will receive a map, a set of instructions, and a list of cryptic questions to answer. The route is well-planned, and each stop features something of historical interest.
Rallye participants are encouraged to enjoy all 11 stops and enjoy delicious goodies, including fresh produce, exotic fruits, delicious tropical fruit milkshakes, homemade delicacies, award-winning orchids, and tropical fruit wine.
The rallye concludes at 5 p.m. at Schnebly Redland’s Winery and Brewery (30205 S.W. 217 Ave.), where all rallye participants will receive free entrance to the Saturday Night At The Winery Event with live music. After 5:30 pm, the team with the most correct answers will be declared the winners with full bragging rights and a few prizes.
“We’re excited to sponsor the Road Rallye this year,” said, Chris Rupp, Dade Heritage Trust’s executive director. “Our mission of preservation, education, and advocacy for historical sites throughout Greater Miami hardly excludes having fun along the way!”
Dade Heritage Trust currently is working with Miami-Dade County, private organizations, and individuals in seeking funding to update the 1993 Redland Preservation and Tourism Plan. The plan could provide a road map for ensuring the Redlands’ future as South Florida’s agritourism center. “This is definitely a historic and delicious slice of Miami, that visitors and residents alike to can enjoy and learn about the importance and uniqueness of the Redland region,” added Rupp.
To save time at the registration desk on the day of the event, teams can pre-register online at https://redlandriot.com/Rallye.html. The registration fee is $10 per car in cash at the registration desk.
