The conference will cover the latest on crucial topics for attorneys and professionals involved in condominiums, homeowners, and community association law and development, including the latest Surfside legislation.

Miami Law’s Ralph E. Boyer Institute on Condominium Law and the Robert Traurig-Greenberg Traurig LL.M. in Real Property Development will co-host the 48th Institute on Condominium and Cluster Development conference September 28 and 29, 2023, at The Boca Raton, 501 East Camino Real, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
The two-day conference is designed to update condominium generally and planned development law and explore topics of current interest, such as the effects of natural and
viral disasters on community associations. The sessions will explore judicial, legislative, arbitration, and recent administrative developments, many growing out of the Surfside collapse.
“This year’s Institute addresses cutting-edge topics such as mixed-use condominiums and the ability to reserve rights for future changes to declarations in HOA communities as well as continuing implementation of the Surfside life safety legislation. These are vitally important topics for practitioners in the area of condominium and community association law,” said the program’s Director, William P. Sklar.
Featured will be panels of real estate attorneys and representatives from the Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshare, and Mobile Homes.
Sklar’s practice areas include the representation of developers and lenders in a broad
range of planning, drafting, and development of residential, commercial, and complex mixed-use condominiums and planned developments. Additionally, Sklar serves as regulatory counsel to developers and lenders relative to compliance under numerous federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and ordinances affecting real estate development and transactions.
“The Boyer Condo Conference is a long-standing, nationally recognized event, which presents a unique opportunity over two days to get an update on all of the most recent developments, legal and regulatory, relating to condo development primarily but not exclusively in Florida. Given the recent significant legislative and legal developments, it is a must for anyone practicing in this area,” said Tom Nealon, director of Miami Law’s Real Property Development LL.M. and longtime adjunct. “The RPD program is a longtime sponsor of this conference. Starting in the 1980s, the RPD program has educated hundreds of lawyers on a wide range of real estate and real property development issues.
“The RPD program is recognized not only nationally but internationally as the leading program for real estate practitioners. Today, students in the program are from throughout the United States and many foreign countries,” Nealon said.
Given the increased complexity of real estate development, pursuing a specialized postgraduate degree is one of the most effective ways to acquire the necessary breadth and depth of experience in this field.
The event will earn approved Florida Bar CLE credits; 18.0 general credits, including 1.0 in ethics, 1.0 in professionalism, and 1.0 in technology; and 18.0 Certification credits in Real Estate and Condominium and Planned Land Development Law.
The event is open to the public, with registration. The registration fee of $640.00 covers both days of the conference.
