Legendary Pop Stars, Duran Duran, make their first ever appearance at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater Tuesday, February 12th, 2019 / 8:30PM. Tickets go on sale Friday, December 7th / 10AM.
Duran Duran personified new wave for much of the mainstream audience. And for good reason. Duran Duran’sreputation was built through music videos, which accentuated their fashion-model looks and glamorous sense of style. Without music videos, it’s likely that their pop-funk — described by the group as the Sex Pistols-meet-Chic— would never have made them international pop stars. Each video the group made was distinctive, incorporating a number of cinematic styles to showcase the band as either part of the jet-setting elite (“Rio”) or as worldly adventurers (“Hungry Like the Wolf”). Now, unlike other ’80s groups, Duran Duran aren’t trying to recapture a bygone era, or squeeze themselves into lanes in which they don’t fit. Paper Gods, their current effort, feels like a natural progression for the pioneering New Romantic band. Friends like Mark Ronson, Mr Hudson, Kiesza, and John Frusciante usher the boys into the now, coating them in expressive pop-art patterns. “Last Night in the City” and “Change the Skyline” speak to Duran Duran’s urbane electro-pop sensibility, while “Pressure Off” is a glorious disco-funk throwdown while Nile Rodgers and Janelle Monáe, who gift them their own “Get Lucky.” With both old songs and new, this is a night of music at the Fillmore to be experienced! Don’t miss it!
