Fall Is Here. South Florida's Kitchens Got the Memo.

South Florida doesn't do fall the way the rest of the country does. No leaf piles. No sweater weather. But the kitchens? They know what time it is. Kabocha squash, pumpkin, butternut, persimmon, pear — the season's ingredients are landing on menus across Miami and Fort Lauderdale right now, and some of them are genuinely worth rearranging your week for.

The dish that stopped us: Uchi Miami's Pork Belly ($29.50). Sous-vide, pressed, seared until the exterior crisps into something close to perfect — then plated over roasted Japanese kabocha squash and finished with a spicy pepper gastrique, fresh cilantro, mint, Thai basil, thinly sliced shallots and a squeeze of lemon. It's a fall dish that earns its place on a Miami menu. Over at Uchiko Miami Beach, the Kabocha Tempura ($11) takes the same squash in a lighter direction — delicately battered, fried crisp, seasoned with shiro dashi and lime leaf powder, served with a brown butter crème fraîche for dipping. The Kombu Carrots ($16.50) with salsa macha, maple labneh and pumpkin seed are worth adding.

R House Wynwood is going full pumpkin through November 30. The Smashing Pumpkin Burger stacks two 4-ounce smash patties with smoked Gouda, bacon jam and a seasonal pumpkin secret sauce. There's also Pumpkin Shrimp Tostones — spiced pumpkin purée, grilled shrimp, heirloom tomato pico and ají amarillo crema — and a Pumpkin Four Cheese Mac & Cheese that updates a house classic. All three are limited-time.

At dōma Wynwood, the Grilled Octopus ($33) is the fall move: tender octopus over silky pumpkin purée with smoked mozzarella water, glazed shimeji mushrooms, paprika dust and a crispy pumpkin seed quinoa topping. Italian-Mediterranean, seasonal, and more interesting than it sounds on paper.

Sexy Fish Miami keeps it glamorous, as expected. The Glazed Pork Belly pairs with pear and warming ginger; the Grilled Sweet Potato comes brightened with lemongrass and cilantro. Both fit the room. At Vilebrequin La Plage on Miami Beach, the breakfast Pain Perdu ($23) leans into caramelized apple over rich French toast with fresh raspberries, while the Linguini Vertes ($26) — house-made spinach linguini with squash purée, goat cheese, confit tomato, olives, basil and pine nuts — is a lunch worth sitting down for.

In Fort Lauderdale: Grand Public Kitchen + Bar's Lobster Ravioli ($32) pairs Maine lobster with creamy butternut squash, lemon butter and sage — elevated comfort, seafood-forward. Casa Sensei's Casa Sensei Luxe Burger ($40) goes further: an 8-ounce wagyu steak burger topped with sautéed foie gras, aged provolone, arugula and house-made apple chutney, served with duck fat steak fries finished with black truffle salt. Shooters Waterfront covers the full seasonal spread — Apple Brie Chicken Sandwich, Lobster Salad with roasted butternut squash and blood orange vinaigrette, and an Apple Cinnamon Cobbler ($15) served warm with vanilla bean ice cream.

On the truffle and mushroom front: Donna Mare Italian Chophouse on Collins Avenue has the Carpaccio di Manzo ($24) — thinly sliced beef with baby arugula, seasonal truffle, pine nuts and shaved Parmigiano. Lincoln Road's MILA is running a Seasonal Mushroom Hotpot ($60) with shaved truffle and arbequina olive oil. And Ezio's in North Beach — opened by the team behind New York's Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized Roberta's — is doing a Wagyu Beef Carpaccio ($25) with wild arugula and seasonal fuyu persimmon, plus a Tagliatelle with Braised Veal ($29) finished with celery leaf and Parmigiano-Reggiano.

Plum Market Aventura rounds out the list with three limited-time October offerings: a Pumpkin Spiced Squash Salad with roasted butternut squash, dried cranberries, pepitas and maple apple cider vinaigrette; Pumpkin Spice Overnight Oats for the grab-and-go crowd; and Tripping Animals Brewing's Pig Spice Latte Stout (6% ABV), brewed with pumpkin spice, coffee and milk sugar. At Novotel Miami Brickell, the Roasted Beet Salad ($20) at UVA pairs earthy beets with clementines, arugula, creamy yogurt, pomegranate seeds and pistachios, finished with lemon dressing and sumac.
