Gulfstream Park Is Having Its Best October in Years. Here's What to Book.
A free Family Day with pumpkin painting and live racing on October 17, then a reserved seat at Ten Palms for the Breeders' Cup on October 30 and 31. Two very different ways to spend October at Gulfstream — both worth your time.
Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
Gulfstream Park has always been one of South Florida's most underused afternoons. October is the month that fixes that.
Two events this month make the case for actually going: a free Family Day on October 17 that's genuinely built for kids, and a Breeders' Cup Viewing Experience at Ten Palms on October 30 and 31 that's built for the kind of racing fan who wants a premium buffet and reserved seating while the year's biggest races run. They're different events for different audiences, and both are worth putting on the calendar.
Family Day at the Races & Kids Club Fall Fest — Saturday, October 17
The pitch is simple: live racing plus a fall festival, free admission, starting at 1 PM. The Kids Club Fall Fest brings an interactive DJ, pumpkin painting, and kids' activities trackside — enough to keep younger guests occupied while the adults watch the races and order food. It's the kind of afternoon that works because it doesn't try too hard. The track is the backdrop, not the obstacle.
Gulfstream is also launching a new Kids Club this month — a membership designed to keep families connected to upcoming events and give kids a real entry point into the sport. If you're bringing children, it's worth signing up at the same time you RSVP for the Fall Fest.
Admission is free. RSVP in advance at gulfstreampark.com.
Breeders' Cup Viewing Experience at Ten Palms — October 30 & 31
The Breeders' Cup is the year's most important two days in thoroughbred racing, and Ten Palms is the right room for it. Reserved seating, a premium buffet, and live racing at Gulfstream running from 12:20 PM through the last race — it's a full day, not just a viewing party. The $85++ per person price point (tax and gratuity additional) is reasonable for what it is: a proper seat at a proper event.
Both days are available — Friday the 30th and Saturday the 31st. Halloween falls on the Saturday, which means the crowd will be in a particular mood. Plan accordingly.
Reservations at gulfstreampark.com.
The PGM Edit
Gulfstream Park is at 901 S Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach. Both events are this month. The Family Day is free and the Ten Palms experience fills up — book the one that fits your October.
