Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
Coral Gables Art Cinema will be the only cinema in the state of Florida showing the new Almodóvar film — Bitter Christmas — during its first week of release.
The members-only preview screening is Thursday, November 19 at 8:15 PM. Regular screenings begin November 20 and run through November 26.
Why This Matters
Pedro Almodóvar is one of the most important filmmakers working today. His films — from All About My Mother to Talk to Her to Pain and Glory — have defined a particular kind of emotionally intelligent, visually extravagant cinema that has no real equivalent in contemporary film. A new Almodóvar film is an event.
The fact that Coral Gables Art Cinema has secured the Florida exclusive for the first week reflects the cinema's standing in the independent film community. This is the kind of booking that happens because distributors trust the venue and its audience.
Membership
The November 19 preview is members-only. Coral Gables Art Cinema is currently running its October membership drive — 16 months for the price of 12. Membership includes free screenings, advance booking, and member-only events like this one. gablescinema.com.
Members-only preview: November 19, 8:15 PM. Regular screenings: November 20–26. 260 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables.
