Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
Founded in 1897, Miami City Cemetery is the final resting place of many of the people who helped shape the Magic City. On October 30, Museum of Miami Resident Historian Dr. Paul S. George and Coordinator of Education Programs Ingrid E. Argueta lead walking tours filled with fascinating stories from Miami's past.
The tours include the unusual tale of Carrie B. Miller, whose body was encased in cement to preserve her sleeping form — one of the more genuinely strange stories in Miami's history, and the kind of detail that makes these tours worth attending even for people who think they know the city.
Two Time Slots
5 PM tour — Led by Ingrid E. Argueta. New this year, the earlier time slot offers families and curious history lovers the chance to explore Miami's past while the sun is still shining. A good option for those who want the history without the full Halloween atmosphere.
6:30 PM tour — Co-led by Ingrid E. Argueta and Dr. Paul S. George. The evening timing adds the atmospheric dimension that makes a cemetery tour feel like an occasion. Dr. George's knowledge of Miami history is encyclopedic — this is the tour for people who want the full experience.
October 30. 5 PM and 6:30 PM. Miami City Cemetery, 1800 NE 2nd Ave. Register at historymiami.org.
