Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
Robyn Almodovar has competed on Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen, won on Chopped, and won on Cutthroat Kitchen. Now she's opening her first independent restaurant — and she's doing it in Buena Vista.
Against All Odds, known as aAO (pronounced aye-ooo), is a community-driven restaurant at 4204 NW 2nd Ave., co-founded with Austin Gaines. The menu draws on Almodovar's Puerto Rican and Italian heritage and South Florida's culinary traditions: Beef Wellington, a signature from her television appearances, and Grilled Octopus with smoked bravas sauce are among the anchors.
The indoor-outdoor space is designed around the idea of community — dinner that turns into conversation, conversation that turns into something more. It's a neighborhood restaurant in the truest sense, in a neighborhood that has been waiting for one.
Against All Odds opens winter 2026 at 4204 NW 2nd Ave., Buena Vista, Miami.
