Miami Wildlife Conservation Film Festival

The 1st Annual Miami Wildlife Conservation Film Festival takes place at the Cinematheque in Miami Beach the weekend of April 20-23. Over 30 conservation, natural history and wildlife documentary films will be screened. Nearly are the films are premiers in the state of Florida and some are world premiers.

The mission of the Miami Wildlife Conservation Film Festival is to educate, enlighten, entertain and inspire the people of the Miami-Dade region and all in the state of Florida so they can become aware and understand that we must protect the world’s wildlife and natural habitat. We help do this through the use of documentary film, television, and social media. The protection of species and habitat are critical not only to the survival of humanity, but our responsibility to ensure future generations can appreciate and enjoy our planet’s natural treasures.

The Miami Wildlife Conservation Film Festival is the premier venue in the southeastern United States for the wildlife filmmaker to present their documentary work to a global audience. This film festival is an annual event and attracts representatives of the international conservation & wildlife organizations, and members of the film, media, television and scientific community.

Some of the conservation organizations participating include: Trust For Wildlife, Lemur Conservation Foundation, Shark Savers, The Nature Conservancy and Pew: Trust For the Environment. On the opening night, Friday April 20, world famous underwater filmmaker Stan Waterman will screen three of his films and then speak to the audience. Mr. Waterman will be presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in underwater filmmaking and conservation.

In addition to Mr. Waterman, longtime Miami resident Harry Kelton the founder of the Pelican Seabird Rescue Center will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work on Wildlife Conservation.

There is no other film festival like this in the state of Florida or the southeastern United States.
