Maíz y Agave Celebrates Día de Muertos with Miami’s Largest Ofrenda

Maíz y Agave invites the community to participate in a vibrant celebration of Día de Muertos, titled “Almas y Tradición,” from October 31 to November 3, 2024. This four-day event will honor loved ones who have passed through live music, cultural offerings, and Miami’s largest Monumental Ofrenda (altar).

Guests can pay tribute to their ancestors by purchasing a personal altar space within the Monumental Ofrenda, which will be adorned with traditional cempasúchil flowers, candles, and personal mementos provided by families. This initiative allows attendees to actively engage in this cherished tradition.

Event highlights include a special performance by renowned soprano Maria Reyna, whose powerful voice will capture the beauty and emotion of Día de Muertos. The celebration will also feature live Mariachi music, traditional comparsa parades, and folkloric dance performances that embody the holiday’s spirit.

Guests can enhance their experience with Catrina and Catrín face painting from noon until midnight, transforming into elegant representations of the holiday’s symbolic skeleton figures. Additionally, Maíz y Agave will offer an authentic Día de Muertos menu, including tamales, pan de muerto, mole, and festive cocktails.

Día de Muertos, celebrated on November 1 and 2, is a deeply rooted Mexican tradition honoring the souls of the departed as they reunite with their families. The first day is dedicated to children and pure souls, while November 2 honors adults. Even beloved pets are remembered on October 27. This joyful celebration emphasizes remembrance and love, where families create ofrendas filled with flowers, food, and keepsakes to welcome their loved ones back home.
