This Weekend's Geography
1 neighborhoodThe Playboy Bunny has always been a symbol — but what it symbolizes has been in active negotiation for years. The company's latest move makes that negotiation explicit: two new senior hires, both reporting to chief brand officer and editor-in-chief Phillip Picardi, tasked with shaping how Playboy looks and who it reaches as it builds beyond its publishing roots into a broader lifestyle ecosystem.
Amanda Alborano joins as Art Director with a multidisciplinary background spanning branding, design, photography, publishing, and experiential. Her résumé includes brand work for A24, New Balance, Nike, and GMC, and campaign platforms at Wieden+Kennedy for Google, Michelob Ultra, and McDonald's. Earlier in her career she held editorial roles at Teen Vogue. In her new role, she will develop Playboy's refreshed visual identity across media, licensing, merchandise, and experiences — evolving the brand's distinctive language without erasing what made it globally recognizable.
Andrew Phillips arrives as Director of Audience from CELSIUS Energy Drink, where he served as Director of Social Media during a period of significant brand growth. He previously held similar roles at Evolution Nutrition, Global Wealth Management, and Tandem Interactive. At Playboy, he will build a social strategy aimed at introducing the brand to new communities while deepening engagement with existing loyalists — expanding into sports and entertainment, developing social-first storytelling, and identifying opportunities across emerging platforms, audio, and podcasting.
"Playboy has always been more than a magazine. It is a brand with an unmistakable point of view and a unique place at the intersection of culture, entertainment, and self-expression." — David Miller, President, Media & Brand, Playboy
The appointments follow the successful return of Playboy's print magazine, which has featured Karol G, Cara Delevingne, and most recently Charli XCX on its covers. The company is increasingly leveraging its editorial heritage to bridge opportunities across social, entertainment, licensing, experiential, and culture — a multi-platform vision that Alborano and Phillips are now central to executing.
