This Weekend's Geography

Every March, Hard Rock Stadium transforms. The football field disappears. The tennis courts go in. The world's best players arrive. And Miami becomes, for two weeks, one of the centers of the global tennis calendar. The Miami Open — officially a Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour and a Premier Mandatory event on the WTA Tour — returns for 2027 from March 14 through March 28.

The Miami Open is one of the five biggest tennis tournaments in the world outside the Grand Slams. The field reflects that — every top player shows up.

The tournament draws the full depth of the ATP and WTA tours. In recent years, the men's draw has featured Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, and Casper Ruud. The women's draw has brought Iga Świątek, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina, and Jessica Pegula. The Miami Open field is not a second-tier event — it is a mandatory stop for the world's top players, which means the quality of tennis on display is as high as it gets outside the four Grand Slams.

The Venue Experience

Hard Rock Stadium's conversion to a tennis venue is one of the more impressive logistical operations in professional sports. The main stadium court — Stadium Court — seats over 13,000 and sits inside the football stadium bowl, giving it a unique atmosphere that blends the intimacy of a tennis venue with the scale of a major sports arena. The tournament also features multiple outer courts, a fan village, food and beverage activations, and the kind of sponsor presence that reflects the event's status as one of the premier tournaments on the calendar.

Miami Open Week as an Event

The Miami Open is not just a tennis tournament — it is a two-week event that draws an international crowd to South Florida at one of the best times of year to be here. March in Miami means warm weather, low humidity, and the kind of conditions that make the city feel at its best. The tournament's presence in Miami Gardens also means the surrounding area sees significant activity, with hotels in Aventura, Sunny Isles, and Miami Beach all filling up for the second week in particular.

For context on the broader Hard Rock Stadium calendar: the ABB FIA Formula E Miami E-Prix takes place on February 20, just three weeks before the Miami Open begins. And the Formula 1 Hard Rock Miami Grand Prix follows in late April. Three world-class sporting events at the same venue across three months — Miami Gardens in early 2027 is worth paying attention to.
