Celebrate Pompano’s history with a Pineapple Jamboree

The Greater Pompano Beach Chamber of Commerce is going back to its agricultural roots to celebrate the chamber’s 65th Birthday. On Nov. 9 from 6-10 p.m., join the Chamber for a Pineapple Jamboree and celebrate Pompano’s citrus roots at the Historic Sample McDougald House.

“When the chamber was founded in 1947, agriculture was still king and up until the late 1940s there were still a significant number of pineapple fields around,” explains Pompano Beach historian Dan Hobby. “Much of Pompano was covered in pineapple fields, including where the Sample McDougald house is located.”

Enjoy an evening of fun celebrating the history of Pompano Beach and its business community. The Pineapple Jamboree will include a bounce house derby, BBQ, complimentary wine and beer, pineapple cocktails, live entertainment and more as you tour history at the Sample McDougald House.

“The Sample McDougald House has been such a key part of Pompano Beach – we are going through a revitalization of Pompano Beach, and this house is a great tie to our past,” said Jean McIntyre, with iBeria Bank and chair of the Greater Pompano Beach Chamber board of directors. “It’s an excellent example of the architecture here and it represents the agriculture the area grew around.”

Come and celebrate by getting your tickets early. Tickets are $50/person with casual attire. Contact the chamber at 954-941-2940, www.pompanobeachchamber.com or info@pompanobeachchamber.com for more information.
