The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is pleased to announce the return of THE HERITAGE PROJECT, the Center’s series celebrating and amplifying Miami’s Black community, culture and heritage. THE HERITAGE PROJECT was created with a commitment to promote social equality and spotlight Black artists in our community through the Project’s salon series, annual festival and other special events throughout the season.
Free tickets for the first Heritage Project salon will be available beginning today at arshtcenter.org. Sign up for ArshtCenter emails here and be sure to select “Community & Free Events” to be the first to know when tickets for subsequent events become available.

In anticipation of Miami’s extremely popular Carnival weekend, the 2022-2023 Heritage Project season series kicks off the celebration with an in-depth, in-person look at Caribbean music, culture and influence. This conversation will be moderated by Dr. Mary, founder of Dr. Mary Media Services, a social media company that amplifies Caribbean events in the South Florida community. Panelists include Dony Felix, educator and Caribbean music artist; Tanti Irie, HOT105 Reggae Runnins host and President/CEO of Reggae Runnins; and DJ Killa Mike, DJ and co-owner of Prodigy Movements.

This free community event was designed to spotlight, celebrate and amplify artists from the African Diaspora in our community. Join us for our fourth annual Heritage Fest, an afternoon of free, fun filled activities for the entire family. Enjoy performances by local performance and visual artists, check out the vendor marketplace featuring products and services by Black creatives and entrepreneurs, and jam to the beats pumping from the dance floor.

In honor of National Poetry Month, this Heritage Project salon will highlight the continuum of wordsmiths lending their voices and their pens toward the ongoing movement for Black diasporic freedom. This discussion will focus on the spoken and written word. We will hear from local poets, writers and educators as they discuss their perspectives on freedom.

ABOUT THE ARSHT CENTER’S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS
THE HERITAGE PROJECT is one of the 10 ongoing Arsht Center programs committed to community engagement and deepening the experience of the performing arts for all Miami-Dade County residents. Having served more than 105,000 people throughout its 16-year history, the programs broaden community participation and open the sights, sounds and possibilities of the world through the performing arts. New programs include: Broadway on Biscayne, a series of pre-and post- performance experiences giving audiences a closer look at the shows; and Club Broadway which brings together a cohort of teen Broadway enthusiasts for shows and workshops. Existing programs include: Free Gospel Sundays, featuring Miami’s best gospel artists and nationally renowned gospel headliners; Family Fest, a season of free performances featuring the world’s leading family-friendly artists; AileyCamp Miami, a full-scholarship, six-week summer dance camp which uses dance as a vehicle for the personal development of young people; CommuniTea Dance, an annual celebration honoring Miami’s LGBTQ+ community; Knight Masterworks Classical Conversations, a series of free lectures which give the audience insight into the musicians, composers and history of music presented in our Knight Masterworks Classical Music series; Accessing the Arts Residencies, art workshops for children and adults with disabilities; and Arsht on the Road, a series of free pop-up performances that bring the arts into Miami-Dade County’s diverse neighborhoods.
