Greater Miami & Miami Beach’s premier LGBTQ+ film festival runs from Thursday, April 20 to Sunday, April 30. In-person screenings will be held at Silverspot Cinema in Downtown Miami and the Rooftop Cinema Club in Miami Beach. The festival will feature more than 40 films from around the world, both in-person and streaming at home.

In addition to in-person screenings, the festival also features a lineup of filmmaker Q&As, screening parties and Cocktails & Cinema happy hours.

What Movies Will Be Screening at the OUTShine Film Festival?

The OUTShine Film Festival will be screening more than 40 movies across two venues (and streaming at home). The fun begins Thursday, April 20 at Silverspot Cinema in Downtown Miami with “Fairyland,” the story of a young girl who moves to San Francisco with her gay father in the 1970s, and the clashes that come with it. The opening night festivities continue with an after-party.

Here are some screening highlights:

Friday, April 21 brings a documentary about the Indigo Girls called “It’s Only Life, After All” as well as French feature “Since the Last Time We Met” and the thrilling “The Latent Image.”

Saturday, April 22 kicks off with a trio of documentaries, beginning with “Esther Newton Made Me Gay,” then continuing with “Little Richard: I Am Everything” and “Commitment to Life,” which looks at the fight against HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles.

Sunday, April 23 culminates with a rooftop screening of “The Birdcage” at Lincoln Road’s Rooftop Cinema Club. The Robin Williams/Nathan Lane classic epitomized South Beach’s gay scene in 1990s South Beach and promises to bring OUTShine’s first weekend to a rollicking close.

Monday, April 24 offers a series of short films from local filmmakers beginning at 7:15 p.m.

On Sunday, April 30, the festival closes out with a screening of “Three Nights A Week,” a French comedy about a photographer who follows a drag queen through the colorful drag scene in Paris. It concludes with the festival’s official closing party at Silverspot Cinema.

The festival will also offer a streaming option at an extra charge from May 1-5. You must be outside of Florida to watch the films online.

Parties at the OUTShine Film Festival

The films are only half the fun at OUTShine, as the festival is as known for its after parties as it is for its film screenings. This year’s lineup is no exception, as opening night ends with a post-screening gala at Silverspot for “Fairyland.” On April 22, the festival will host a Men’s Spotlight party after the 7 p.m. screening of “Drifter,” and the ladies’ spotlight will be on April 29 after the 7:15 showing of “Love Proof.” There will also be after-parties for Youth Spotlight “Big Boys” on April 23 and Centerpiece Film “L’immensita” on April 27.

Filmmaker Q&As

Attendees will have a chance to delve a little deeper into the filmmaking process with OUTShine’s series of question-and-answer sessions. They will take place both in person and online, and cover several of the films included in the festival. There will also be special Cocktails and Cinema events, where guests can enjoy post-screening drinks with the filmmakers.
