62The debut Underground Lauderdale Fashion Weekend will bring together fashion influencers and consumer enthusiasts from all over the country for an unforgettable fashion program with a touch of New York-inspired nightlife. The events will take place in sunny Fort Lauderdale March 30 through April 2, 2017

Underground Lauderdale Fashion Weekend is held in partnership with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Office of Film, Music, Entertainment and Creative Industries. “Underground Lauderdale fashion encompasses a style of bohemia. It’s progressive in terms of our fashion sensibility, yet mysterious, daring and reflective of our destination’s creative culture,” said Noelle Stevenson, Vice President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward Office of Film, Music, Entertainment and Creative Industries.

The fashion program will be anchored by world-class partners including national millennial organizations IVY and Create & Cultivate, along with some of fashion’s biggest luminaries including Nina GarciaNicole Miller, and Susanne Bartsch.

Marie Claire’s Creative Director, Lifetime’s Project Runway Judge and all-around renowned Fashion Expert Nina Garcia, will host Friday night’s festivities March 31. This includes headlining designer runway show featuring Nicole Miller’s Spring 2017 Collection taking place at Fort Lauderdale’s red-hot arts district called FATVillage in an 8,000 sq. ft. raw space (523 NW 1st Avenue, Fort Lauderdale), followed by an after party at Ft. Lauderdale hot spot, VIBE Las Olas. Nicole Miller will be showing pieces from her widely-praised Spring 2017 collection. The assortment will feature styles inspired by Panamanian art and culture, reflected in hand-finished beading, embroideries, and bright festive prints.

“I am thrilled to be participating in Underground Lauderdale Fashion Week showing my Spring 2017 line! What better place to show bright, playful and stylish clothing than in Fort Lauderdale?” says Nicole Miller.

In addition to Nicole Miller’s marquee fashion presentation, Underground Lauderdale Fashion Weekend will include a Kick-Off Reception on Thursday, March 30 (8-11pm) at the Ritz Carlton’s Burlock Coast hosted by local style mover & shakers presented by The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills and followed on Saturday, April 1 (10am-6pm) by IVY hosted fashion shows focused on emerging designers representing both New York and South Florida. IVY has been showcasing designers during fashion weeks in NY, LA and Miami for the past 2 years.

The Fashion Designer Presentations will all be showing “see-now buy-now collections” in either live model vignette presentations or runway shows:

  • SAUNDER (11am-noon) (NYC, women’s & men’s)
  • Descendent of Thieves (1-2pm) (NYC, menswear)
  • An “Art-a-Porter” presentation curated by Susanne Bartsch (3-4pm) featuring vignettes by NYC designers Devin Kelly, Hana Quist and Casey Caldwell, and with looks from Graham Tyler, Claire Fleury, Bcalla, SagaMuffinhead (women’s & men’s)
  • Zoey Reva (5pm) (South Florida, women’s)
  • Alice & Trixie (6pm) (NYC, women’s)

“The fashion industry is going through a period of evolution as we see changes in technology and the purchasing patterns of consumers. One of the most successful ways designers are responding to this change is by implementing the “see now, buy now” trend—which means we won’t have to wait to wear all of the fabulous looks about to come down the Fort Lauderdale runway” says Nina Garcia.

The Fashion Marketplace in the same venue will complement the fashion shows with pop-up stores where guests can buy looks off the runway, shop other South Floridian accessory and clothing brands, experience the Style Lounge created by The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills, and relax at the pop-up lounge. The Weekend will close with a taste of New York featuring the Queen of Nightlife herself, Susanne Bartsch, hosting the Finale Warehouse Extravaganza.

“Greater Fort Lauderdale has become an increasingly sought after destination for its high-end lifestyle appeal,” said Stacy Ritter, president and CEO, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are delighted to be able to help make this exciting concept a reality and look forward to the top names in fashion being here to shine a spotlight on the tremendous shopping and fashion opportunities for our visitors.”

Underground Lauderdale Fashion Weekend represents an expansion of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Office of Film, Music, Entertainment & Creative Industries programming into the realm of fashion, which currently includes film festivals, music festivals, and creative industries programming. Local fashion high-end retail partner, The Colonnade Outlets at Sawgrass Mills, a luxury-shopping mecca for travelers from around the world, is one of the program’s leading partners with additional support from K2 Models, Jetzy, Kaliboxes.com, Runways The Talent Group, Ocean Drive Magazine & The Talent Direct Agency.
