Miami Dolphins Special Teams Program Participate in National Day of Service on 9-11 at Sun Life Stadium Group Shot - lrIn celebration of National Day of Service and in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of September 11, the Miami Dolphins Special Teams packed care packages to send to troops who are stationed overseas. Troops posted their needs on AnySoldier.com and the special teams members collected supplies to fulfill these requests.

“Over 100 volunteers took part in today’s event and we will be able to serve over 600 troops,” said Leslie Nixon, Miami Dolphins Manager of Volunteer Programs. “We received over $20,000 worth of products in donations and are excited and fortunate that we are able to make a positive impact for our troops.

Actual packing of the care packages took place this morning at Sun Life Stadium with assistance from the Village of Pinecrest and Keyes Realty.

In 2009, South Florida ranked dead last in the nation in percentage of volunteers and volunteer hours per. To combat this problem, the organization created the special teams program, a volunteer group that offers hands-on services to communities and families in need, to partner with existing organizations on worthwhile social, civic and charitable programs and to support community efforts in times of emergency. To date, the program has 3,204 volunteers that have logged 53,917 of community service, making them the most impactful group of its kind.
