Miami Dolphins and Party City Shop With Students for Halloween Costumes

Miami Dolphins players, cheerleaders and members of the Miami Dolphins Women’s Organization helped Miami Dade County School children shop for Halloween Costumes at Party City in Davie. Twenty students from Phyllis Wheatley Elementary School in Overtown were treated to a Halloween costume of their choice courtesy of Party City.

“One of our initiatives is community outreach,” said Forrest Haag, Party City spokesperson.  “This is a wonderful opportunity we are able to do with local schools. When I was a kid and I got to meet professional football players it was the coolest thing in the entire world. So for a student to be out here with cheerleaders and T.D. and everybody it’s awesome for them. It’s a life changing experience for these kids.”

Current players Charles Clay, Anthony Fasano and Nate Garner took part in today’s event and said they had a great time interacting with future trick-or-treaters.

“I took part in it because I think it’s cool to give back to the community and spend time with the kids,” said Nate Garner. “It’s something I enjoy and it’s something I never had the opportunity to do when I was a little kid and wanted to see what it’s like to give them an opportunity to hang out with an NFL player. Thanks to Party City for putting this on and hooking them up with all the costumes. It’s just really cool.”

Other members of the Dolphins echoed Garner’s sentiments.

“I think just to get a costume alone they’d be pretty happy but then to meet the players, the cheerleaders and to see people that care about them, I think it became a special day.” said Jeanette Sparano.

“Shopping with the Dolphins and their wives is obviously a huge thrill,” added Mark Zaher, Director of District Schools Operations, Miami Dade. “But underlining that is this is a school where most kids wouldn’t even have the opportunity to shop for a Halloween costume or wear one themselves due to financial reasons. This is a tremendous opportunity for them to be able to come here and do this and to be able to wear it when they go home and show all their friends. I’m sure they’re going to be the only kids in the neighborhood with some really, really super Halloween costumes.”
