MIAMI DOLPHINS TO SALUTE MILITARY AND VETERANS AND SUPPORT DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS

The Miami Dolphins today announced their commitment to saluting the U.S. military and veterans at their game against the Washington Redskins on Sunday, November 13th, presented by GEICO. In addition to the in-game military theme, the team has created a special ticket package that includes a donation to Disabled American Veterans.

“It’s an honor for us to salute the brave men and women who are currently serving and those who have sacrificed so much for all of our country,” said Mike Dee, Dolphins CEO.  “We join with our fans and the NFL in supporting and appreciating our military and veterans.”

To raise funds for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and give fans a convenient way to support their work, the team has created a special ticket package that includes a $10 donation to the DAV. As part of this ticket program, fans can purchase an upper level ticket for $49 or a lower level ticket for $99 for either the Washington Redskins game on November 13th or the Buffalo Bills game on November 20th.  For more information, fans should visit www.Dolphins.com.

The Disabled American Veterans, founded in 1920, is dedicated to a building better lives for America’s disabled veterans and their families. It is the nation’s oldest, largest and primary non-profit organization serving disabled veterans, their families and survivors.  For more information on DAV, please visit www.dav.org.

“The Miami Dolphins have made a commitment to our brave defenders that will help ensure our nation lives up to its obligation to those who’ve served,” said Donald L. Samuels, National Commander of the Disabled American Veterans. “Their generosity and the generosity of Dolphin fans will make a life-changing difference for military members transitioning to civilian life, those who’ve sacrificed for our nation, their families and care providers.”

As part of the tribute to the military and veterans, the team will incorporate the following special gameday elements:

  • Pregame enlistment
  • National Anthem by Parris Island Marine Band
  • US Navy flyover
  • Coast Guard Color Guard
  • Sailors from the USS Leyte Gulf (CG-55) on the field holding the giant American flag
  • Military vehicles including a mini-jet F-16 on the AT&T Grand Plaza
  • Military-themed music throughout the game and for Cheerleader endzone performance
  • “Salute to Service” wall banners in the end zones or sidelines

Off the field, the team has a number of special initiatives planned in order to help or honor the military and veterans:

  • Gameday, November 13th – Fans are being asked to donate their old cell phones to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a non-profit organization that converts old cell phones into pre-paid calling cards so soldiers overseas can call home during the holidays.  Last year, Dolphins fans donated more than 600 old cell phones.

  • November 7th – A group of Marines will join Dolphins players, alumni and cheerleaders for the annual Kids and Fins Publix Shopping Spree.  The program offers 100 underprivileged kids the opportunity to shop alongside a celebrity.

  • November 10th – The Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium will be hosting Recruit Military’s Opportunity Expo, which assists veterans find civilian jobs.  For more information, please visit http://recruitmilitary.com/expos/candidates.
