MACK LAMB PASSES AWAY

MACK LAMB

The Miami Dolphins are saddened to announce the passing of former Dolphins defensive back Mack Lamb.

Lamb, a defensive back prepped at Miami’s Booker T. High School and played collegiately at Tennessee A & I State. He was signed by Miami as a free agent in 1967 and holds the distinction of being the first native Miamian to play for the Dolphins.

He appeared in 15 games, with four starts during his two seasons (1967-68) with the Dolphins. Lamb may be most notable as the player that the Dolphins traded on July 2, 1969, when the team obtained a fellow Miamian and Booker T. High School teammate, Larry Little, from the San Diego Chargers. Little went on to star for the Dolphins for 12 seasons and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

“I received the call about the trade before Mack did, and I was the one who told him he got traded,” explained Little. “I said I had just been traded from the Chargers to Miami, and his response was, ‘Great we are going to be teammates again.’ That was when I had to tell him, ‘No, you were the one I got traded for  —  you’re going to San Diego’.  Mack was a good person who came back here to teach and coach. He will be missed by his family, his friends, everyone he coached, and his teammates.”

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 11:00 am at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 698 NW 47th Terrace, Miami, FL 33127-2314
