GKIDS Acquires North American Rights To MARS EXPRESS

GKIDS, a renowned producer and distributor of artist-driven animation, has acquired the North American distribution rights for the highly anticipated French feature film, “MARS EXPRESS.” Directed by Jérémie Perin, the film made its debut at the prestigious Cannes and Annecy film festivals this year. Combining 2D and 3D animation, “MARS EXPRESS” is described as an adrenaline-fueled stylish and futuristic film noir.

Jérémie Perin, known for his work on various series such as “CO2” and “Lastman,” serves as both the producer and director of this highly anticipated sci-fi debut. The film tells the story of Aline Ruby, a private detective, and her android partner Carlos Rivera, who are hired to track down a notorious hacker. As they delve into the underbelly of Mars’ capital city, they uncover a dark world of brain farms, corruption, and a missing girl who holds a secret that could change the entire universe.

GKIDS plans to release “MARS EXPRESS” theatrically in 2024 with both the original French language and a new English dub. This collaboration marks the second partnership between GKIDS and Jérémie Perin, following their successful distribution of “The Rabbi’s Cat.” The deal was negotiated between Rodney Uhler of GKIDS and Olivier Barbier of MK2 Films.

Commenting on the acquisition, GKIDS President David Jesteadt expressed his excitement for the film, emphasizing its timely and thought-provoking storyline set in a visually stunning animated sci-fi world. He believes that “MARS EXPRESS” will captivate North American audiences.

MK2 Films Head of Acquisition, Olivier Barbier, also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with GKIDS, commending them as one of the best independent distributors for animation in North America.
