Attending a concert these days is not only about showing up and supporting your favorite artist; it’s also about seeking personal and pleasurable experiences. People want to walk away feeling that their money was well spent and the performer has delivered more than satisfactory entertainment.

In this case, the audience at the Hard Rock Live in June was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly thrilled with Genesis Owusu’s appearance. His dramatic entrance caused a sudden hush among concert-goers. The electricity in the air was palpable as he criss-crossed the stage, delivering thumping and pounding rhythms of Afrobeats. It felt like a voyage back to Africa, a celebration of his Ghanaian/Australian heritage.

Genesis Owusu, also known as Gen O, had been billed as the supporting guest for Paramore. With a buzz surrounding his name and after thoroughly researching his profile, I made sure to arrive early to witness his performance firsthand. Little did I know that I would be completely mesmerized by his unparalleled talent. Gen O, who performed to a sold out crowd at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, left an unforgettable impression and shattered any preconceived notions about opening acts. Just like the book of Genesis, which derives its name from the opening words “In the beginning,” Genesis Owusu set the tone for the rest of the night, creating an electric and euphoric atmosphere that permeated throughout the venue.

Gen O’s unique blend of funk, soul, and hip-hop left an indelible mark on the audience. His magnetic stage presence was undeniable, captivating everyone in the venue. Music is a powerful expressive tool, and Owusu used it to retell his own life story and address societal pressures and political issues. His lyrics were thought-provoking and introspective, tackling themes of identity, race, and personal growth. While he didn’t delve too deeply into politics during the performance, his messages resonated through his songs and passionate delivery.

Known for his energetic and dazzling stage theatrics, Gen O’s performance was both powerful and intimate. It was his first time in Florida and the last stop on his tour before heading back home to Australia, and he made sure we would never forget his name.

Genesis Owusu left us asking, “Gen Owu, who are you?” With Genesis, there is no revelation; the end feels far away. This rising star has so much more to give.

The concert’s setlist was as follows:

– Leaving the Light
– WUTD
– Waitin’ on Ya
– Void
– GTFO
– Get Inspired
– Don’t Need You
– Good Times?

Genesis Owusu’s performance shows the power of music in shaping our experiences and igniting change. As we continue to follow his journey, we eagerly await his next offerings, knowing that there is so much more to come from this incredibly talented artist.

Spread the love!
