Friends of Theatre Benefit for the Ring Theatre on April 23

Chateu d'Etchauz and is courtesy of Ajit and Maria Alicia Asrani.The University of Miami Department of Theatre Arts and the Friends of Theatre will celebrate Mona Pirnot’s Practicum as the winner of their first annual playwrights’ competition with a Workshop Presentation of the play and benefit for the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre at UM. The evening includes dinner, an auction and more and will begin at 6:30pm, Tuesday, April 23.

WHO/WHY: Local celebrity Bob Soper, former meterologist at CBS 4, will be the celebrity auctioneer for the evening. The Friends of Theatre is a civic organization that has been supporting the Theatre Department and the Ring Theatre since 1972. Proceeds from the benefit will be used by the Friends to support scholarships for students and improvements to the Ring.

AUCTION ITEMS: One of the marquee items for the evening’s auction is a four-day, three-night stay at the beautiful Chateau d’Etchauz in France, generously donated by Ajit and Maria Alicia Asrani of Palm Beach and Coral Gables. A fully restored XI and XVI century chateau, located in the southwest of France, the historic Chateau d’Etchauz is in the French Pyrennees, in proximity to some of the most visited destinations in France and Spain, such as Biarritz, Bordeaux, Lourdes, San Sebastian, Bilbao and Pamplona.

Additional auction items include lunch with Coral Gables Mayor Jim Cason, fine artwork, jewelry, including tennis bracelets and strands of pearls, gift baskets, dinner gift certificates and more.
