FREE MEET-AND-GREET WADE BOGGS FRIDAY APRIL 27

   Friday, April 27, 6-7:30 p.m.

As a New York Yankee, Wade Boggs was voted onto three straight All Star teams, had four straight .300 plus seasons, and collected two Gold Gloves. In 1996, he helped the Yankees win their first World Series in 18 years. In the fourth game, 10th inning of a tie game, Boggs drew a bases loaded walk, bringing in the winning run and shifting the momentum of the series in favor of the Yankees. Though he had a fear of horses, he celebrated by jumping on the back of one ridden by a New York City police officer and toured the field in celebration with his index finger in the air, signaling that the Yankees were number 1!

According to the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, the third baseman who was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and ended his career with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, was “a virtuoso with a bat and one of the game’s true masters of striking a baseball between the foul lines at an alarmingly successful rate. Utilizing great bat control and a good eye, Boggs won five batting titles, strung together seven consecutive seasons of 200 or more hits and earned 100 runs every season from 1983-89. A member of the 3,000-hit club despite not getting a chance to play in the big leagues regularly until he was nearly 25, Boggs retired (in 1999) with a lofty .328 average.” He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005 on the first ballot.
