Creating a splash in South Beach, Chef Douglas Rodriguez celebrated his newest venture, a sustainable seafood restaurant called De Rodriguez Ocean, on October 15th, 2010 with some of Miami’s most influential figures. More than 600 seafood lovers spilled through the door to get their first taste of Chef Rodriguez’s famed Nuevo Latino cuisine and a glimpse of the many surprises the restaurant has in store for their guests.
The bold flavors presented in Chef Rodriguez’s signature ceviches, extensive raw bar, and sustainable seafood options were on display as a variety of hors d’oeuvres from the menu like the Tuna & Watermelon Ceviche and Smoked Marlin Tacos made their way through the crowds. When asked about the sustainable seafood options, Chef Rodriguez explained his reasoning simply “If I can find purveyors who ensure the products we get are responsibly grown, fished, picked, and so on than I’m doing what I can to not further damage the system. I can feel good about the food on the plate and so can my guests” he continued.
The night was filled with vibrant festivities and Latin flavor, with celebrities including former Heat player Ricky Davis, Miami Social’s Ariel Stein, and hip hop artist Noel Osborne making appearances. In addition, renowned models from various agencies stopped by to celebrate including model and actress, Liliana Gomez. Embracing the vibrancy of the elite South of Fifth neighborhood, the celebration continued into the late hours of the night. This late night scene will continue with De Rodriguez Ocean planning to launch a lineup of special nights in the coming weeks and months. “With De Rodriguez Ocean we’re offering an incredible experience – a trifecta of food, drink and entertainment” explained Director of Operations, Luke L’Heureux.
The seductive atmosphere set the perfect mood for guests to mingle and enjoy the extensive cocktail list. From the two full bars, De Rodriguez Ocean bartenders kept the good times flowing pouring their signature mojito. “After all of the preparations and anticipation, it was great to finally see the end result – our guests enjoying the De Rodriguez Ocean experience” said Partner Michael Porter.
