Dirk Salz: Dissolving Boundaries — On View Now at DLFA in the Design District

German artist Dirk Salz brings his luminous, boundary-dissolving works to DLFA's new Design District space through November 7. A Progressive Art Brunch on October 3 opens the show to the public, with the exhibition exploring the duality of the tangible and the ethereal through resin, light, and his new "multishapes" series.

Dirk Salz: Dissolving Boundaries — On View Now at DLFA in the Design District

DLFA has relocated to the Miami Design District — and the gallery's first major show in its new space is a fitting arrival: Dirk Salz: Dissolving Boundaries, on view through November 7, 2026.

Salz, who was born in Bochum and lives and works in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, creates works in resin and light that occupy the space between the physical and the perceived. His practice is built around what he calls "mutually dependent contradictions" — and the title of this exhibition names the one he returns to most: the boundary between the tangible and the ethereal.

"My work is all at once about mutually dependent contradictions and crossing boundaries," Salz writes. "Or rather, eventually dissolving them. I choose this title because it gains even more relevance in the presence of the new line of work, the so-called 'multishapes'."

The multishapes series — introduced here for the first time — pushes further into the territory Salz has been mapping for years: forms that seem to shift depending on light, angle, and the viewer's own perception. His background in materials science (he studied at RWTH Aachen University) gives the work a precision that makes the luminous effects feel earned rather than decorative.

Salz's recent solo exhibitions include shows at Galerie Frey in Salzburg, Galerie Löhrl in Mönchengladbach, and Victor Lope Arte Contemporáneo in Barcelona. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf and the Museum Katharinenhof in Kranenburg. He was the recipient of the 2021 Ruhr Prize for Art & Science.

The public opening is a Progressive Art Brunch on Sunday, October 3, from 11 AM to 4 PM. The exhibition continues through November 7.

DLFA is located at 4100 NE 2nd Avenue, Suite 202, Miami, FL 33137 in the Design District. For more information, call 305.576.1804 or email [email protected].

The PGM Edit

Love Miami

Dirk Salz works in resin and light in a way that makes you question whether you're looking at a surface or through one. His new show at DLFA — Dissolving Boundaries — is built around that exact tension: the tangible and the ethereal, the material and the perceived. The "multishapes" series is new work, and the Design District location is new too. Worth seeing before November 7.
