Just in time for fall, Salt & Straw ice cream announces the launch of their new Apple Series. Available for the month of September, the series showcases the bounty of autumn and captures the seasonal fruit in five unique flavors created by co-founder and head ice cream innovator Tyler Malek, as well as the first ever seasonal waffle cone to spark excitement for Fall.
Available starting Friday, August 30th in scoop shops and via nationwide shipping, the Apple series is Salt & Straw’s deep dive into this all-American fruit. The menu is a nostalgic nod to Salt & Straw’s early days – when it first began as a push cart in Portland, Oregon, – and was bolstered by the community during events like the “First Thursday” Fall festivals on Alberta Street. The flavors serve as a perfect assortment to bring along to gatherings this season.
The flavors serve as perfect item for fall gatherings and are made in collaboration with beloved artisan partners, such as Sidecar Doughnuts, Finnriver Farm & Cidery, Oregon Coast Wasabi, Treetop Cooperative Farm, and Diaspora Co., reflecting Salt & Straw’s commitment to working with excellent local purveyors and as a way to support local communities. Flavors include:
-
*NEW Apple Pie vs. Pumpkin Pie — Two of fall’s most festive pies come together in this swirled ice cream, which features Granny Smith apple pie and a shortbread cookie crust nestled into creamy vanilla custard, and swirled with pumpkin pie in brown sugar ice cream.
-
*NEW Apple Cider Donuts — Stripes of cinnamon-spiced vanilla caramel run thick through royal icing inspired ice cream, dotted with hunks of sugar-and-spice and streusel-topped with longtime partner Sidecar Doughnuts
-
*NEW Finnriver’s Black Currant Apple Cider — Celebrate the limited-release cider “Autumn Blush” from Finnriver Farm & Cidery, a leader in the Pacific Northwest’s hard cider renaissance. This pink sparkling cider is transformed into pâte de fruits and a delicate apple-and-black-currant infused sherbet.
-
**NEW Green Apple Wasabi Sorbet — Juiced genuine wasabi from Oregon Coast Wasabi, America’s largest wasabi farm, is blended with bright green apple juice. Red and golden delicious apples pop against the wasabi’s gentle heat and vegetal flavor for an unexpected, refreshing bite.
-
Caramel Apple Sherbet — Crisp apple juice sherbet made with apples from Treetop, a cooperative farm in the heart of Washington’s apple country in Selah, with vanilla- infused caramel ribbons, creating a deeper, more complex flavor that acts as a perfect counterpart to the sherbet.
Additionally, on September 6th, Salt & Straw is debuting their first-ever Pumpkin Spiced Waffle Cone in all Salt & Straw shops. In collaboration with Diaspora Co., a spice company renowned for sourcing the freshest, single-origin spices directly from 150 farms, this cone features an aromatic blend of cardamom and allspice infused into Salt & Straw’s signature vanilla-caramel waffle cone batter. It offers an intense and intriguing twist on the comforting flavors that define fall, and launches just in time to celebrate National Waffle Cone Day (September 22nd).
