The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is pleased to announce the return of FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS for its 15th season. The series features Miami’s brightest gospel artists alongside gospel music’s biggest stars, and kicks off with MAURETTE BROWN CLARK on October 17, followed by THE KINGDOM CHOIR on December 12, and comes to a thrilling close with best-selling gospel superstar DONNIE McCLURKIN on March 27, 2022. WPLG Local 10 AnchorCALVIN HUGHES returns as host for the 2021-2022 season.

 

First-Access Passes for MAURETTE BROWN CLARK will be available beginning September 23 at noon. If this performance reaches capacity, there will be a virtual standby line. Details here.

 

FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS is one of more than 10 ongoing Arsht Center programs committed to community engagement and deepening the experience of the performing arts for all Miami-Dade County residents. Having served more than 100,000 people throughout its 15-year history, the programs broaden community participation and open the sights, sounds and possibilities of the world through the performing arts. Programs include: Family Fest, a series of free performances for the whole family; The Heritage Project, a free salon series and annual festival featuring panel discussions surrounding  performing arts and social justice in the Black community;AileyCamp Miami, a full-scholarship, six-week summer dance camp which uses dance as a vehicle for the personal development of young people; CommuniTea Dance, an annual celebration honoring Miami’s LGBTQ+ community; Knight Masterworks Classical Conversations, a series of free lectures which give the audience insight into the musicians, composers and history of music presented in our Knight Masterworks Classical Musicseries; Camp Broadway, a weeklong musical theater camp for kids; Step Into Dance Master Classes, dance workshops for the community presented in conjunction with our Knight Masterworks Dance series; Accessing the Arts Residencies, art workshops for children and adults with disabilities;  Arsht on the Road, a new series of free pop-up performances that bring the arts into Miami-Dade County’s diverse neighborhoods; and Arsht@Work, free professional development workshops for all industries.

 

Now in its 15th season, the 2021-2022 season of FREE GOSPEL SUNDAYS series is made possible with the leadership support of Rodney and Michelle Adkins, as well as the generous support of the Green Family Foundation Trust, Baptist Health South Florida, The Israel, Rose, Henry and Robert Wiener Charitable Foundation, the Friends of Free Gospel Sundays, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and the Board of County Commissioners, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.

Multiple award winner MAURETTE BROWN CLARK is a gospel-music sweetheart. With four chart-topping albums, Clark remains true to her sound, grace and call.

 

With praise and worship anthems “I Just Wanna Praise You” and “One God,” along with heartfelt ballads “I Want God” and “It Ain’t Over (Until God Says It’s Over),” Clark encourages listeners worldwide.  In Philadelphia, she hosts The Maurette Brown Clark Show on FM radio from Monday through Friday.

THE KINGDOM CHOIR

London’s THE KINGDOM CHOIR first attracted the world’s attention when they performed their show-stopping performance of “Stand By Me” in front of a world-wide television audience of over two billion at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in May 2018. Since that infamous day the Choir’s infectious joy and spirit, matched only by their raw Gospel spiritual style, has taken them around the world including a debut North American tour in 2019 which took them to 29 cities including New York, Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

Founded in 1994 by award-winning conductor Karen Gibson, the choir draws from various Christian traditions and is dedicated to creating a sound that reflects the community they share through their warm energy and enthusiastic performances. The Choir’s recording of “Stand By Me” went straight to the top of the Billboard charts and they released a full length recording on Sony Music.

Three-time Grammy winner DONNIE McCLURKIN, known worldwide for his rich and powerful delivery, is far more than a gospel singer. The man behind multiplatinum and gold singles such as “Stand” and “We Fall Down” has a knack for performing songs with which others can identify.
