Magen David Adom (MDA), Israel’s national emergency medical and blood services organization, proudly announces a groundbreaking collaboration with renowned urban artist Dede Bandaid to unveil “The Art of Saving Lives” at Art Basel Miami. This innovative project transforms a functional ambulance into a vibrant mobile artwork, symbolizing the resilience and lifesaving mission of Israel’s emergency services across diverse communities including Jewish, Christian, and Arab populations.
The centerpiece of this initiative is a reimagined ambulance, creatively designed by Dede Bandaid, who incorporates his signature urban bandage motifs into the vehicle’s structure. “I want my band-aids to help others, to reach everyone and every place that needs healing,” said Bandaid about his artistic vision.
Ronit Neuman, a National Board Member of Magen David Adom and driving force behind the initiative, emphasizes that “The Art of Saving Lives” transcends mere functionality, blending emotional artistry with practical purpose. “It is a testament to Israel’s resilience, creativity, and unwavering commitment to saving lives,” she explained.
This poignant installation not only underscores universal themes of healing, renewal, and hope, but also bridges the gap between essential healthcare services and artistic expression. By recontextualizing the ambulance as a beacon of shared human values, “The Art of Saving Lives” invites viewers to reflect on the tenacity of the human spirit and MDA’s vital work.
As a cornerstone of Israel’s healthcare and disaster response, MDA provides critical services, from maintaining the nation’s blood supply to assisting the Israel Defense Forces and ensuring emergency care for all citizens. Through this artful representation at Art Basel Miami, MDA seeks to raise global awareness of its mission and its dedication to saving lives regardless of background.
Art Basel Miami, one of the world’s premier art fairs, offers a unique platform for this compelling project, delivering a powerful message that intertwines art, resilience, and humanitarian efforts to captivate audiences worldwide.
Members of the media are invited to experience the installation from December 4 to 6 at Temple Emmanuel, with a special brunch in honor of Art Basel on Saturday, December 7 at the Sagamore Hotel.
