
An interactive livestream event titled “The Power Shift” will take place on October 8, 2024, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. EST, focusing on the crucial impact of Black women in driving advancements in politics, economics, activism, and social justice. The event aims to showcase the barriers Black women have shattered and the legacy they are building.
Hosted by Dr. Kerry Mitchell Brown, a cultural architect and equity strategist, the event features prominent guests, including Teri Williams, President, COO, and Owner of OneUnited Bank, the largest Black-owned bank in the U.S., and Dr. Charlene Sinclair, a scholar and senior advisor. The discussion will be moderated by the Honorable Crystal Wagar, attorney and the former first Black Mayor of Miami Shores, Florida.
Since President Joe Biden’s recent transition from the Democratic presidential candidacy to V.P. Kamala Harris, Black women have stepped into a new era of leadership and empowerment. Teri Williams noted, “Black women have always understood our power, but the world has not always recognized our strength.” She referenced Malcolm X, stating, “The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman,” emphasizing the need for change.
The panel will address:
– Key historical milestones showcasing Black women’s resilience and influence in the pursuit of justice and leadership.
– Strategies for overcoming challenges to enact meaningful change in politics, communities, and businesses.
– Mobilization tactics to ensure active participation in the democratic process as upcoming elections approach.
Dr. Kerry Mitchell Brown remarked, “The Power Shift event will illuminate how Black women have not only taken the lead but have also redefined leadership through unwavering resilience, proactive activism, and commitment to justice.”
