Indoors Out 311

In true Cambridge style, Nick and Tanya’s town house is small and quaint. But their taste is modern and artistic. Nick, a company controller and Tanya, a small business owner, like to defy convention. So, they decide to expand their limited indoor living space by creating a sleek and modern outdoor living room. Seeing the potential for a modern urban space, Dean and Derek are eager to make Nick and Tanya’s city-dweller dreams come true! For starters, Nick and Tanya’s yard is shaded with trees. So, it’s no surprise that grass won’t grow. No worries, Dean and Derek select a bluestone patio in an Ashlar pattern to provide an attractive foundation to the room that will look good no matter the sun’s exposure. And with the help from designer Jay Bearfield, they build a contemporary artistic water fountain. To give privacy to the space, they bring in bamboo, contemporary furniture, and other decorative elements to complete the minimalist yet comfortable look! When this project is done, there’s no doubt that Nick and Tanya will be the envy of the neighborhood!

11:30 p.m.

Indoors Out 312

With six teenage children, the Barrett family is teeming with energy! Things inside can get a little crazy. So, single mom, Elinore Barrett has asked Dean and Derek to help them turn their backyard into a tranquil, English-style family room for all of them to enjoy. Dean and Derek start by demolishing the current brick patio. From there they have a clean slate to create landscaping with nooks for the family to enjoy together. Dean and Derek take advantage of some of the yard’s natural features like a large tree to create intimate settings for seating areas. They install a self-contained waterfall to further add to the peaceful atmosphere. In addition, quaint touches like arbors, statues and urns make this space a unique place to sit and relax.

TUESDAY – All Times Eastern

8 p.m.

Indoors Out 313

Mike and Kelly Paulsen are nature enthusiasts who love to spend their downtime outdoors. They ask Dean and Derek to help them create the ideal setting for relaxation – a heated outdoor soaking tub and comfortable seating area. As the centerpiece, Dean, Derek and homeowner Mike craft a hand-made concrete soaking tub complete with a solar powered hot water system to soak the stress of the day away. As the base of the room, they install Goshen stone for the floor and build a pergola for added shade and privacy. For the final touch, Dean and Derek add a quiet seating area for Mike and Kelly to relish their new open-air soothing space. It’s the perfect outdoor space to soak in soothing solar energy.

8:30 p.m.

Indoors Out 310

With just a couple of old picnic tables and not much else for outdoor entertaining, the Marshall family really needs help. Dean and Derek head to Gloucester, Massachusetts to create an outdoor dining room for the family… and this time, they’re getting an assist! Jamie Marshall works in the seafood business and is good buddies with Andy and John Hillstrand of Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. So the two captains take time away from their boat, The Time Bandit, to lend a hand with the project. Dean and Derek start by plotting out the landscape and laying pavers for a huge new patio. A beautiful decorative stone wall is next as well as a cozy stone firepit. As the focal point, they’ll put together a wooden gazebo – the perfect spot for comfortable seating. Then, they’ll add the grill and cooking area for the Alaskan King Crab. And, even though it all takes place on land, there’s plenty of high seas high jinks with the ever colorful Hillstrand brothers.

9 p.m.

Yard Crashers 203

This tiny yard gets a massive upgrade as it’s transformed into a hip, urban retreat with clean lines and a very modern design. Turf War 101

TBD

THURSDAY – All Times Eastern

8 p.m.

Indoors Out 309

Jaci and Mike Hogan have a cozy–though small-house in Falmouth, MA. It’s great for intimate gatherings and quiet nights but any time they have friends or business associates over, there’s just no space. And because they both love the ocean and enjoy steamed cherry stones and lobsters, their dream room has always been a dockside lobster bar. Enter Dean and Derek. They create the ultimate lobster bar that looks and feels like it’s right on the dock. They start by demolishing the old wooden deck and replacing it with top-of-the-line composite decking. For a dockside feel, they add pylons in one corner and rope railings all around then build a shiplap shower to wash away that sea salt. In the center of it all they turn a small boat into a cooking and seating island complete with raw bar and keg area. There will be a cooking station and of course plenty of lobsters. The hardest part will be keeping all of Jaci and Mike’s friends from spending every night at their new dockside lobster bar!

8:30 p.m.

Indoors Out 308

Dean and Derek head to the Great Plains to create a rustic, outdoor party space. New parents Doug and Brooke Brant have their hands full with their first child, a brand new home, and a group of friends about the size of their hometown’s population. Doug and Brooke prefer to party outside in their prairie-viewing backyard and that’s where Dean and Derek step in. They’ll help create an Okie-themed, barbeque-throwing, “down-home”-style party room. For the room’s foundations, Dean and Derek show off their masonry muscle with a gorgeous flagstone patio, while up top they build a red cedar pergola. Then-to beef up the room’s barbequing credential-they’ll install a large kitchen island with a gas grill, side burner, refrigerator, and bar seating. On the other side of the patio, Dean and Derek will add another guest-gathering spot with a propane-fueled fire pit and seating area. By the time they’re done, Dean and Derek will take the Brant’s backyard from plain prairieland to party perfection!

Ed & Jean have a charming home, but have done nothing to their unsightly, barren front yard. A previous landscaper drafted an expensive, impractical design incorporating plants that were inappropriate to the site conditions. With Gino’s implementation of rocks, boulders, shade-tolerant and deer-resistant ornamental shrubs, Gino’s Crew gives Ed & Jean’s yard an attitude adjustment. Gino, Ralph, and Gina also demonstrate the appropriate way to choose and plant a memorial tree to honor the homeowners’ fathers.

11:30 p.m.

After completely renovating his entire house after the storm, he hires Gino and Ralph to completely revitalize his front yard with new planting beds, shrubs, stone walkways, and a lawn. Gino gets carried away with his big machines while reshaping the yard. He later explodes on Ralph when they disagree about a drainage pipe.

11 p.m.

Indoors Out 307

Dean and Derek return to Las Vegas to give a family in need a desert hideaway! After long hours spent watching an active one year old, all stay-at-home-mom Marguerita wants to do is relax. Her and husband David’s home features a nice, open floor plan, but for relaxing they want something cozier and outdoors! Fortunately, their backyard is tiny, empty, and the perfect spot for a desert hideaway! The current yard features two areas that Dean and Derek want to tackle: a covered patio entrance and a narrow dirt backyard. But first they’ll shield the yard from a nearby jogging path by adding a screen of desert-thriving plants. For the entrance, Dean and Derek will add a burnished-leather stain to existing concrete and fill in arched entrances with self-circulating water fountains. Where there’s a dirt pit, they’ll lay a beautiful flagstone patio centered around a rugged red rock firepit. When they’re done – David and Marguerita will have a cozy place to getaway… they just may never want to go back indoors!

11:30 p.m.

Indoors Out 306

John and Chrissy Maguire love the Cape almost as much as they love baseball. When they found the perfect Cape Cod cottage right next to the Chatham Angler’s baseball field, they were ecstatic! Their quaint home, however, is only 800 square feet, which makes inviting family and friends over for ball games nearly impossible. With a love for the game, and a knack for distinctive projects, Dean and Derek are the perfect contractors to come up with a baseball themed design. Their design maximizes the space in the back yard without overwhelming the existing charm and style of the Cape Cod cottage. They start by installing a quartzite paver patio in the shape of home plate. In keeping with the baseball theme, they build a bar/grilling station accented with baseball bats – perfect for entertaining guests. To keep the Maguire’s warm on those cool Cape Cod nights, Dean and Derek bring in a removable firepit and seating area. But to really make this home plate hangout complete, they add relaxing chairs-on stilts-for a perfect view of the baseball field. Throw in lush plantings, more seating, and a top notch sound system, and this outdoor room is an absolute home run!

Spread the love!
