Wines of Portugal invites enthusiasts to indulge in the willowy, watery meadows of the Tejo region on October 10 at 6:00 p.m., by way of South Pointe, Miami Beach at Smith & Wollensky. Wine lovers will be privy to a unique, all-you-can-drink, tasting of 100 distinct wines hailing from the hillier areas that rise out of the River Tagus (Tejo in Portuguese) in southwest Portugal. The region’s offerings range from gentle, easy-drinking reds, rosés and fruity wines, and aromatic whites for everyday quaffing, to more complex wines from the drier hills. Participating wines and producers include:
Atela’s Blend 2007 (Quinta da Atela): Ruby color, complex notes of berries, mint and a hint of toast; well-balanced with good acidity and quality tannins on the finish
Bridão Touriga Nacional 2009 (Adega Coorperativa do Cartaxo): Red wine intense with fruity notes of lemon, while soft and balanced with a long finish
Casal do Conde 2010 (Casal do Conde): An elegant, complex wine with structure and outstanding tannins; exudes an aroma of red fruit and jam with good ageing ability
Colheira Selecconada Branco 2010 (Quinta da Lapa): Full bodied, fresh and modern white wine, with deep notes of tropical fruit
Fiuza Premium Cabernet Sauvignon & Touriga Nacional (Fiuza & Bright): Modern and stylish with pronounced black berry fruit, black chocolate and spicy notes with structure
Mythos 2008 (Casal da Coehlheira): Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Carbernet Sauvignon, with malolactic fermentation and matured in French oak barrels
Terra Silvestre Reserve 2010 (Agro-Batoréu): Strong violet color with a very complex fruity aroma and pronounced vanilla flavor; well-balanced in the mouth, smooth and persistent
Quinta do Casal Monteiro Chardonnay & Arinto 2010 (Quinta do Casal Monteiro): Intense ripe fruit, peach and tropical aromas, bodied with hints of vanilla from its oaked fermentation process
Quinta do Falcão 2011 (Quinta do Falcão): A bright white wine whose mineral notes add powerful freshness to its intense and fruity aroma
