The Inaugural Flight of Virgin America to Fort Lauderdale International Airport

VIRGIN AMERICA LAUNCHED NEW SERVICE FROM THE GOLDEN STATE TO FORT LAUDERDALE’S GOLD COAST

On Wednesday, November 18th,2009, Virgin America, the California-based domestic airline, celebrated the launch of its new upscale, low fare service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) with a red carpet runway welcome for its first flight guests.

Virgin America Airbus A319 aircraft, from LAX and SFO, touched down in Fort Lauderdale, welcomed by Sir Richard Branson with fire department’s traditional water cannon salute for inaugural flights. Flight guests received a “Gold Coast” welcome with a Virgin twist – a champagne-soaked reception on the arrival tarmac at FLL.

Virgin America CEO David Cush, Ken Keechl, Vice Mayor of Broward County, Kent George, Aviation Department Director for Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport,Nicki Grossman, President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Sir Richard Branson, Founder and President of Virgin Group were key speakers for the inaugural event.

Members of the press where later invited aboard to tour the Virgin America Airbus A319 featuring mood-lit interiors and Red™ touch-screen entertainment at every seat.

Passengers and guests were treated to Live music, champagne & cocktails served on the red carpet by VeeV Açai Spirit, KARMA California Brut and Patrón Tequila.

Premier Guide Miami was in attendance and had a chance to conduct a one-on-one interview with David Cush, President and CEO of Virgin America, and a few words with Virgin’s own Golden Boy – Sir Richard Branson.
