THE MIAMI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA LED BY CONDUCTOR EDUARDO MARTURET PROVIDES AN EVENING IN VIENNA CONCERT ON JAN. 23

The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) will perform its signature annual concert, “An Evening in Vienna,” including great overtures, waltzes and dances, and featuring MISO’s concertmaster violinist Daniel Andai as soloist, today announced MISO Music Director and Conductor Eduardo Marturet. The popular annual New Year’s celebration concert takes place at 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Adrienne Arsht Center, 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, 33132.

The event emulates the traditional New Year’s Day concert performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which takes place every January 1 in Vienna. In Austria, the demand for tickets to this concert is so high that concertgoers have to pre-register a year in advance in order to participate in a ticket drawing. Seats are reserved by Austrian families and shared from generation to generation. The concert has also enjoyed significant popularity in Miami for the past 20 years.

The concert’s program will be divided into two sections: the first will include pieces from Bed?ich Smetana and Max Bruch, and the second will include overtures, dances and waltzes from Johann Strauss. The event also will include encore performances similar to the original Vienna concert, including Strauss’ Radetzky March, which was first played in 1848 for Austrian soldiers who stomped their feet and clapped their hands when the chorus was played. Maestro Eduardo Marturet will lead the audience to join in clapping and stomping their feet in time to the music.

“We are proud to present our signature annual concert, ‘An Evening in Vienna,’ joining our audiences in a celebration of the New Year and a breathtaking journey to enjoy the charm, decadence and romance of Vienna,” Maestro Marturet said. “We look forward to providing audiences with a unique experience and a very memorable evening. The sophisticated selections that comprise this special program are the basis of our ongoing commitment to solidify MISO’s international stature.”

The concert is part of MISO’s innovative concert line-up, designed to appeal to all types of music lovers who have an affinity for everything from traditional classical music to contemporary sounds, including famous movie soundtracks. Upcoming concerts include “Visual Journey Through Art and Music” on February 12 and 13, an artistic alliance with The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum featuring violinist Kristóf Baráti. Season subscriptions are on sale now. Three program subscriptions are available from $79 to $193, and full season subscriptions are available from $250 to $450, or nine programs for the cost of seven.
