THREE-COURSE GOURMET LUNCHES FOR $18

Now through December, Florida International University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management launches its Fall Semester 2010 Dining Events presented by students of the school’s Advanced Foodservice Management classes.  The hosted lunch series is open to the public three days a week offering a unique and value-priced alternative to the usual business or weekday lunch for just $18 per person.

Under the direction of Chef Mike Moran, instructor for the Advanced Culinary Class and Luncheon series, along with Chef Roger Probst, nearly two dozen students hailing from Miami and as far as South America and Russia, will host, serve and prepare a three-course lunch every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday through December 3, 2010 as they learn the art of foodservice management and hospitality.   As part of its fall semester training sessions for students, FIU’s School of Hospitality Management invites locals to enjoy the taste-infused, artfully-prepared lunch series hosted at the school’s dining room at HM Building, room 129, Biscayne Bay Campus.

With additional seating added this fall due to the program’s increased popularity and demand, the lunch series is a true value at $18/person.  Menus change weekly and are often centered on a specific type of cuisine or theme, and include an appetizer or salad, bread, choice of entrée, dessert, glass of wine, and coffee.  For example, a sample menu includes a first course of Caesar Salad; choice of entrée – Duck Breast with Orange Gastrique or Baked Red Snapper Provencal; and Bananas Foster for dessert.

Seating begins promptly at 11:45am, and in addition to the attentive service and delectable dishes, guests will also enjoy the roll call presentation of each of the student participants at the end of the lunch.  Dress code is business casual.  Menus are subject to change based on availability of ingredients.  A $45 package rate is also available for the purchase of three lunch dates.  Take-out orders are not available.  Reservations are available by calling Roger Ledesma at 305/919-4526 and must be paid in advance via check or cash to confirm reservation.  Checks can be made payable to “FIU”.  Cancellations must be made at least two days in advance to receive a reimbursement.
