SPEEDWAY TO AGAIN HOST HOMESTEAD’S JULY FOURTH FIREWORKS

For the third consecutive year, Homestead-Miami Speedway will serve as host to the City of Homestead’s annual Fourth of July celebration – “Race to the Fourth” — from 5:00-10:00 p.m. (Wednesday, July 4). The event will feature family entertainment including: live music, children’s activities, food and drinks, games and a classic Independence Day fireworks display.

“We are pleased to again host ‘Race to the Fourth,’ and celebrate our nation’s independence with our South Florida neighbors,” said Homestead-Miami Speedway President Matthew Becherer.  “It’s a great event for families and a safe and fun way to celebrate the holiday.”

Admission to the “Race to the Fourth” is free. Guests are also invited to view the fireworks show from the Champions Club, perched eight stories above Turn 1. A limited number of $10 tickets will be available for purchase at the City of Homestead City Hall, Parks and Recreation Department and Community Center for the Fourth of July at the Champions Club event. Tickets include VIP parking at the speedway and food and soft drinks inside the climate-controlled Turn 1 Champions Club and a preferred view of the fireworks from above. Children under 12 will be admitted in the Champions Club for free with a ticket as well as military personnel, who can request tickets at the selling center with their military identification. Display and vendor areas will be located near the pavilion area outside of the grandstand seating sections.  Guests should enter via Gate 3 accessible by way of Speedway Boulevard.

Additionally, a U.S. Citizenship Swear-in Ceremony will take place on stage during the event. A group of military personnel will be sworn-in by a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration official and, thusly, become U.S. Citizens on this American Holiday.

Homestead Mayor Steven C. Bateman hopes thousands of Homestead residents will turn out for the day’s activities at the track:  “As a community, we must be mindful, dedicated, and ever-vigilant of the freedoms that we enjoy and the price that has been paid over many generations to sustain them,” said Mayor Bateman. “This Fourth of July we will get together with our community and celebrate America during this wonderful afternoon!”

“Race to the Fourth” guests will be treated to music from two live bands — “Main Highway” and “No Restrictions.” Dougie Hitchcock of Thunder Country 100.3 FM radio and popular host of the “Octane Hour” motorsports show will serve as master of ceremonies. With food and drinks available on site, personal items and coolers will not be permitted at entry.

Homestead Vice-Mayor Judy Waldman, is spearheading the event along with the Parks & Recreations Department, said the Fourth of July Homestead celebration is one of the City’s most important community events.

“Last year we had over 10,000 people share the birthday of our nation with us, and it was the most moving experience to remember our freedom and those who have fought for it under the amazing light of the fireworks,” said Councilwoman Waldman. “I have been attending the Fourth of July Homestead Celebration since I was a little girl, and each year it is even better.  We spend many hours planning this event and you can rest assured there will be lots of entertainment again this year, and I am excited to be sharing this holiday with our residents again.”
