Spain announces roster for U.S. matches

Spanish national team coach Vicente Del Bosque today announced his preliminary roster for the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.  23 of the 26 players called by the Spanish coach will be travel to the United States for matches against Haiti on June 8 in Miami and then against Ireland on June 11 before traveling to Brazil.

Featured among the 26 players called are 19 that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and 20 that won the 2012 European Championship in Poland and the Ukraine.  The roster also includes 14 players from La Liga powerhouses FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

 

Spain is the top ranked team in the world dating back to August 2011 and is the first national team to ever win three consecutive European and/or World titles by winning Euro 2008, 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

 

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Liverpool) y Victor Valdés (Barcelona).

 

Defenders: Nacho Monreal (Arsenal), Jordi Alba (Barcelona), Raúl Albiol (Real Madrid), Gerard Piqué (Barcelona), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), César Azpilicueta (Chelsea) y Álvaro Arbeloa (Real Madrid)

 

Midfielders: Andrés Iniesta (Barcelona), Santiago Cazorla (Arsenal), Sergio Busquets (Barcelona), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid), Xavi Hernández (Barcelona) y Javi Martínez (Bayern Munich), Javi García (Manchester City), Beñat (Real Betis).

 

Forwards: Juan Mata (Chelsea), David Silva (Manchester City), Cesc Fábregas (Barcelona), Pedro (Barcelona), Jesús Navas (Sevilla), David Villa (Barcelona) y Fernando Torres (Chelsea), Roberto Soldado (Valencia).
