SILVERSPOT CINEMA DOWNTOWN PROUDLY PRESENTS “monochrome exercises: body of water” Mural Unveiling

February 6, 2019; 6pm to 8pm
300 SE 3rd Street, Miami, FL 33131

On Wednesday, February 6, Silverspot Cinema Downtown will host a press and VIP preview cocktail reception from 6 pm to 8 pm at 300 SE 3rd Street, Miami, FL 33131 to unveil their exciting new custom commissioned mural “monochrome exercises: body of water” by world-renowned designer Rodolfo Agrella.

With “monochrome exercise” Agrella has designed a demonstrative homage to the ever-moving source of energy: the ocean.

The piece is composed of a continuum of sensitized cut-out surfaces, masterfully connected by color planes that mutate when the passerby’s view and the Miami’s sun converge across the almost 600 square feet of surface extension. Bold shapes that overlap and fold on top of the walls and ceilings, as if they are waves conquering the shore, are depicted with a strict monochromatic palette. Used to enhance the play of shadows and volume, it’s a refined method to express multiple transparencies of the lush and dynamism that distinguish the Tropics and Agrella’s work.

“We are delighted to have the privilege to showcase this special piece from the very talented designer, architect, Rodolfo Agrella, at Silverspot Cinema Downtown. Miami is a cultural hub with a prominent place in the modern art scene. This unique work perfectly aligns with us and we hope the Downtown Community admires and enjoys this beautiful work of art,” said Gonzalo Ulivi, Managing Partner of Silverspot Cinema.

“ I am so thrilled to be working with Silverspot Cinema on this project. My work is informed by a deep understanding of the tropics, and when I came to Miami to view the location, I was immediately inspired by the “cut-out” of the Miami skyline from an urban focal point. My goal is to inspire a reflective process by manipulating scale while remaining faithful to structure, geometry, and function, I seek to activate our sensory systems. The team at Silverspot allowed me to have artistic freedom to create and stay true to this vision. I am very proud and excited to have my piece as a visual cornerstone of their building.”

Along with the mural, Agrella will also present a small exhibition of additional monochrome exercise works on the third floor of the theater. The exhibition will run through Feb 15, 2019.
