Sagamore Hotel Artist Series with Award-Winning Photo-Based Artist Maria Martinez-Cañas

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

6:00pm – 8:00pm

Sagamore, the Art Hotel announces the second ART-Talk event featuring Award-winning Miami Artist, Maria Martinez-Cañas. Hosted by Cricket Taplin, Art-Talk offers a unique opportunity to understand and explore an artist’s means of expression and inspiration. From meticulously assembled “Totem” works inspired by Latin American Modernism to performative photograms created on the floor of a former tobacco factory, Cañas will discuss how much of her work is linked to her identity as a Cuban born American with deep roots in Latin American culture.

The Sagamore’s upcoming ART-Talk will feature a conversation between María Martínez-Cañas and Julie Saul, her gallery representative in New York. Together, they will present an overview of her work, from the 1980s to present day, followed by an informal discussion with Saul and questions from the audience. Following the talk, guests are invited to enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres with the artist.
