Ochopee Post Office
The smallest post office in the United States fits inside a shed. It has been operating since 1953. The line moves fast.
The Ochopee Post Office is 61.3 square feet. It was originally an irrigation pipe shed. When the town's general store burned down in 1953, the postmaster moved operations into the shed and never moved back out. It has been the smallest post office in the United States ever since.
The post office is on US-41 in Ochopee, open weekdays 10am–4pm and Saturday 10am–noon. Mail something from here — the Ochopee postmark is a legitimate collector's item. It's 35 miles west of Miami on the Tamiami Trail, easy to combine with an Everglades day trip.
The current postmaster handles everything from a counter the size of a kitchen island. There is one window. There is one door. There is a flag out front. It is, in every way that matters, a real post office.
