MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK THE WONDER YEARS AT REVOLUTION LIVE THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2015

When Motion City Soundtrack formed in Minneapolis there was a sense of fun that threaded through everything that involved the band. That youthful glee, the feeling that everything was exciting and anything was possible, has been inevitably dampened over the years. On their sixth album, Panic StationsMCS found that feeling again. The process of creating the new songs, which open a new chapter in the band’s storied career, was based on instinct and openness, a methodology that resulted in a buoyant, impassioned record.  Panic Stations was recorded in June of 2014 after MCS finished touring on their last album. The band had begun writing the music while on Warped Tour, initially just for fun, and eventually found themselves with a collection of songs. There was no preconceived vision or theme, just the underlying goal to create music the band enjoyed playing together in one room and to help capture the energy of MCS’ live show. The music itself is invigorated and propulsive. “Lose Control” builds into an intense, emotionally raw chorus that mirrors their plea to relinquish control while “TKO” pares the music down to its lively rock ‘n’ roll core, focusing on the deft combination of guitars and rhythms and revealing the fervor of MCS’live performance. “Over It Now,” a raucous standout, amps up that performative energy, reminding fans of the band’s infectious enthusiasm for the stage, which the band brings on tour

“The whole world’s full of losers,” sings Wonder Years frontman Dan “Soupy” Campbell on “Washington Square Park,” from the band’s second full-length record, The Upsides, “but if you get a chance to win, take it.”

Perhaps no quote better describes The Wonder Years’ career to date. A band that started as something of a joke grew to become recognized around the country courtesy of a sloppy debut LP that flicked some sort of switch. People were paying attention to them. People were listening to them. People liked them. This was, as they say, opportunity knocking. The Wonder Years had a chance to win, and they took it. The band’s current success can largely be traced to Suburbia. The album explores the concept of feeling displaced from your home among other concepts, providing a wealth of relatable lyricism for fans to delve into. The Wonder Years have become notable in the best way imaginable – by being themselves. By wearing their collective heart on their proverbial sleeve. And by taking every chance they get to win..
