Mother Daughter Meet Up at Camp Choee as Part of the Dove® National Self-Esteem Weekend

Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida has announced it will host the Mother Daughter Meet Up on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Girl Scout Camp Choee, 11347 SW 160th Street, Miami as part of the Dove® Self-Esteem Weekend. The event is open to girls ages 8 through 17 and mothers to take part in the It’s Your Story – Tell It! leadership journey series to help girls build relationships, feel confident and become empowered.

It’s Your Story – Tell It! is a Girl Scout leadership journey series dedicated to building self-esteem and inspiring girls and women to reach their full potential. Tailored from the leadership journey series, It’s Your Story – Tell It! and inspired by the movie “Ramona & Beezus” where the main character Ramona creates a mural to tell her story. Girl Scouts across the country are invited to educate and inspire others by teaming up to create murals that tell a story about an issue they care about and share it with family, friends and people in their communities.

Unilever and its Dove® Self-Esteem Fund partners with Girl Scouts of the USA to help girls reach their full potential by addressing self-esteem issues that impact them physically, emotionally and intellectually through programs such as, Unique ME! Program designed to address the critical nationwide problem of low self-esteem among adolescent and pre-adolescent girls, and foster positive self-esteem among girls, ages 8 to 17.

“We are excited to be able to bring girls in our community an event designed to help them build self-esteem and confidence,” said Maria D. Tejera, Chief Executive Officer. Girl Scouting is a great experience, not just for girls, but for those adults who volunteer to facilitate groups, camps, travel, events and series programs.

Girl Scouts is open to all girls ages 5 – 17 and volunteer opportunities are available to adults 18+, pending background checks. Help your daughter learn to believe in herself, make long-lasting friendship, recognize her strengths and see a future of exciting possibilities. Through a number of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong.
