For the sixth consecutive year, the Miami Dolphins teamed up with Lift Up America and Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:TSN) to tackle hunger in South Florida on Tuesday, December 28. Miami Dolphins’ staff, cheerleaders, “Special Teams” volunteers, and players including Lousaka Polite, Dan Carpenter, Brandon Fields, Quentin Moses, Nate Ness and were also joined by Dolphins alumni Elmer Bailey, Charles Bennett, Sean Hill, James Pruitt, and Keith Sims were on hand to help unload and distribute 30,000 pounds of protein, donated by Tyson Foods, to more than 45 of Feeding South Florida’s member charities. This event took place at Sun Life Stadium which also included a press conference with representatives from each participating organization.

“Tyson is grateful for the opportunity to once again join forces with Lift Up America and the Miami Dolphins to bring a greater awareness to the issue of hunger in South Florida,” said Ed Nicholson, director of community relations, Tyson Foods. “Through each donation event, we are one step closer to ending hunger in America.”

Miami Dolphins player Lousaka Polite, who served as this event’s emcee, echoed Kindy’s sentiments.

“The event was a success in having a lot of people come out and help. It was a tremendous time. Feeding South Florida and Tyson did an excellent job with the Miami Dolphins for the Lift Up America event and it just gets bigger and better every year. So, I’m looking forward to next year.”

In South Florida alone, there are more than 920,000 people including 312,800 children who are food insecure, which is defined as a condition of uncertain availability of or inability to acquire safe, nutritious food in socially acceptable ways. Andrea Lomack, one of many beneficiaries of this event and resident of Lauderhill, FL, shared how this event impacts her family’s lives.

“It’s feels great just to be here,” said Lomack. “I’m just so grateful to Tyson Foods, the Miami Dolphins, and the Feeding South Florida food bank. They are great organizations, everybody has been great. It made our Christmas and just living day by day possible.”

“This is the latest of our ongoing efforts with Feeding South Florida and maybe our most gratifying in terms of the amount of food, the number of people, our volunteer organization, and players and alumni leading the way as always,” added Mike Dee, CEO of the Miami Dolphins. It’s been a great partnership this year. We’ve taken it to a new level and we intend to continue that commitment into the future.”

Feeding South Florida, one of the beneficiaries of today’s event, expressed their gratitude for the support for everyone involved in providing much needed protein for families in need.

“The donation from Tyson and Lift Up America could not come at a better time, thankfully more people will be able to have a nutritious meal this holiday,” said Judith Gatti, executive director of Feeding South Florida. “We are so grateful for their support in the fight against hunger. It is through these partnerships with the Dolphins that Feeding South Florida is able to serve the community all year long.”
