Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Miami Race Celebrates 25 Years

With 25 years of the Miami Corporate Run under their feet, one would think that Hans and Laurie Huseby, founders of the Florida Corporate Run Series, FootWorks and TeamFootWorks, are ready to unlace their running shoes; however, the husband and wife team are proving once again that they are just beginning to pound the pavement.

After establishing an Earth Shoe store in 1973 and realizing that many of their healthy patrons were also runners, Hans and Laurie Huseby, avid runners themselves, revamped their store and opened FootWorks in 1976. Realizing there was an existing void in running retail shops, together, they made it their personal mission to provide South Florida runners with a retail location that provided the personalized feeling that their shoppers desired.

As South Florida’s unofficial runners’ headquarters, FootWorks continues to grow in the local running scene. Through their continued efforts, Hans and Laurie have established a strong following in the South Florida community. As founders of the Miami Runners Club and directors and producers of the Florida Corporate Run series, the pair continues to promote their message of health and fitness on a much larger scale.

“For more than 25 years, TeamFootWorks has organized and produced the Corporate Run with one goal in mind: to promote health and fitness at all levels and provide a venue to boost company morale and encourage camaraderie in the workplace,” said Laurie Huseby, TeamFootWorks president. “The idea behind the run is to encourage and support one another toward a goal of living a healthier life – an ideal we hold close to our hearts.”

Celebrating the Miami run’s 25th anniversary, the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series, a tri-county 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk, attracts more than 800 South Florida Companies. With more than 25,000 runners and walkers expected to participate in the 2010 series, the run continues to grow.

For companies with individuals from all walks of life, ages and ability levels, the run provides the opportunity for co-workers to get together and work as a team in the spirit of a friendly competition outside of the workplace.

“There are plenty of races that focus on those who cross the finish line first, but our emphasis is different. We celebrate the fact that people participate, taking the first steps towards a healthier lifestyle and doing it with the support of co-workers and friends,” said Laurie Huseby. “We give employees one night where they can come together as a group and express pride in their companies. For those who’ve never exercised, the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run is a great way to get people interested in a long-term fitness program and something we are extremely proud to be a part of, especially after 25 years.”
