MERCE at the Arsht — NEW EDUCATION AND OUTREACH activities, plus an ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE & a special MUSEUM NIGHT!

Merce Cunningham Dance Company Photo by Anna FinkeThe Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is thrilled to announce special community outreach and educational events to be part of the MERCE CUNNINGHAM DANCE COMPANY (MCDC) engagement at the Center, December 2-4, 2010.  Unique and exciting opportunities to engage with the dancers and explore the legendary Cunningham technique and repertory include master classes, a lecture-demonstration, and a “Merce Family Hour” featuring movement adventures for the entire family.

Also just announced: an additional show on December 2 at 9:30 p.m. and a special Museum Night on December 3.  The Adrienne Arsht Center’s Green Room Society invites all of Miami’s young arts patron groups to a pre-show cocktail reception at Bombay Sapphire Lounge followed by the 7 p.m. performance of MCDC – all included in the $35 ticket price.  RSVP is required; please use the promo code MERCEMUSEUM when purchasing tickets.

MCDC’s Miami outreach and education activities include two exciting events at the Center – both free and open to the public.  The Cunningham Technique Master Class will be held on Tuesday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. The class is recommended for Intermediate/Advanced dancers, and limited to 30 participants; registration is necessary. The terrific new addition to the MCDC Miami experience, Merce Family Hour, is a movement-based workshop for children and adults, appropriate for ages 5-10.  Merce Family Hour takes place on Saturday, December 4 at 11 a.m.; participation is limited 20 children accompanied by a parent or guardian and registration is necessary.

Two additional components – not open to the general public – round out the company’s Miami residency.  On Tuesday, November 30, MCDC will offer a master class to college level dance students at New World School of the Arts at 9:30 a.m.  MCDC will also lead a Lecture-Demonstration at the Center on Wednesday, December 1, for a group of 30 invited students from Miami-Dade County public high schools.
